Practice

Brian

Our friend Brian Goetzenleuchter at the Olfactory Memoir Project has a number of scent writing exercises useful for the practice of writing about scent on a personal level.

Olfactory Memoirs challenges both emerging and experienced writers to reconstruct childhood memories through the sense of smell.

For the new scent writer, these tutorials offer excellent practice for noticing scent, placing scent within a narrative and exploring the intimate relationship between scent and memory.

The Scent in Literature Project encourages you to experiment with some of Brian’s  techniques and submit your own.

As we develop the Scent in Literature Project we will be gathering more prompts, exercises and experiences here for you!
