The Scent in Literature Project’s new logo

cropped-scent_in_literature_project_logo_2-1-1.jpgI’ve been wanting to make the Scent in Literature Project its own thing for a while — not just have it attached to my perfuming blog — so I hired a designer to make a logo for the site.

Hope you like it!

I think it captures the goal of the project: To bring awareness of scent references — their vitality and usefulness — to writers and writing.

Let me know what you think of it.

Great writing stinks. Welcome to the Scent in Literature Project

Write in all five senses, they say. Include three sensory cues in every scene, they say.

But just how do writers do that with scent? Are there best practices for incorporating scent imagery in writing without making the attempt seem obvious, overwrought and amateurish? Are there examples of great writing that stinks right off the page?

This website aims to teach writers how to harness the subtle and transformative use of scent in writing. Learn from the best, or add your own favorite by emailing emilygrosvenor [at] gmail.com
